THE PAIMIO SANATORIUM. ALVAR ALTO

The Paimio Sanatorium was built in 1933 by Alvar Alto as a tuberculosis sanatorium. There were no antibiotics to treat the disease, thus the main treatment was the improvement of the general condition of patients, light therapy and fresh air. Basing on these functions of the building, the architect designed color palettes to sooth patients and constructed the sanatorium to have as many light there as possible.
